Nova Milanese, April 15, 2024 - Zanotta, a symbol of Italian radical design worldwide, returns as a protagonist of Milan Design Week and celebrates its seventieth anniversary.

For this important occasion, Zanotta opens the doors to the new flagship store on Via Durini, two levels with a total area of over 500 square meters, marking a significant milestone in the growth of the Italian brand. The new setting is capable of accommodating pieces with a strong personality. Calvi Brambilla, Art Director of the brand, decided to work on the background, alternating very rough surfaces with smooth and reflective ones.

The layout of the new flagship surprises visitors already at the entrance for its strong visual impact, all played on a single colour, orange, and becomes the stage for the new collections where the novelties developed in collaboration with international designers such as the Belgian duo Muller Van Severen and the Anglo-Canadian designer Philippe Malouin are exhibited together with pieces made by designers already known to the brand, such as Zaven and Calvi Brambilla.

Zanotta also introduces new products and re-editions that bring to light the great masters of Italian design such as the Gomma armchair designed by De Pas D'Urbino Lomazzi, the Sosia mirror by Ugo La Pietra, the Ara Fenice by Piero Bottoni, the Dealbata vases and the Cuculia bowl by Alessandro Mendini, just to name a few.

"2024 marks a fundamental chapter in Zanotta's relaunch journey. We are excited to announce a comprehensive revision of the colour range, which also involves products already in the catalogue, along with the introduction of three new fabrics and the total renewal of leather coverings. This is a crucial moment to present to the world the new look of Zanotta, embracing the values that have made it famous internationally since its origins such as the pioneering approach inspired by radical design ideas. We are willing to embrace innovation fearlessly, showing through this flagship store the brand's future vision." - Luca Fuso, CEO of Zanotta

Debuting at the Design Week are the new Z24 pieces designed by Muller Van Severen. A series of storage furniture including a sideboard, a bedside table, and two low containers debuting in the new colour palette, ranging from talc shade to caramel, from grass green to amaranth. The real protagonist of this project is light and its absence, in a game of shadows that is made possible by the finishes in laminated wood and matte lacquer.

"We are truly happy and excited about our collaboration with Zanotta, a historic company that has been producing iconic furniture since the 1960s and continues to do so today. We share the love for the essence of design and authentic emotions, and we decided to design a series of storage furniture where the interaction with light and shadow is the most important aspect." - Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, Muller Van Severen
Ta.Ba.Ce. by Philippe Malouin for Zanotta

The first collaboration between Zanotta and Philippe Malouin is marked by the collection of low ceramic tables Ta.Ba.Ce. For this project, Malouin was inspired by a detail of the craftsmanship of ceramic vases, the unglazed base, a result of the adhesion of the surface to the walls of the oven during vitrification. In the case of the tables Ta.ba.ce., this detail has been taken up in the relief surface that marks the outline of the tables, serving both as a functional element and as a graphic and aesthetic object.

Zaven, the duo of Venetian designers, presents ZA:ZA Max, an extension of the ZA:ZA line first introduced in 2023 and made through the exclusive use of recycled and recyclable materials, demonstrating Zanotta's tangible commitment to environmental sustainability. The latest version of the ZA:ZA sofa features lower dimensions and a deeper seat for optimal comfort. In addition to the innovative series of modular elements that characterize it, the new ZA:ZA sofa features two end pieces, one curved and one straight, as well as a pouf to allow for new custom configurations.

In addition, the collection is enriched with the introduction of the ZA:ZA Bed, with sinuous and enveloping lines, available with or without storage box. As in the original collection, the soft and abundant cushions are made of recycled polyester flakes.

To create the new Zavolo collection, composed of coffee tables of different shapes and sizes, and console tables, the Zaven duo was inspired by the world of aeronautics. In this collection, the pieces are characterised by elements with generous thicknesses that blend harmoniously together through a distinctive inverted 'Y' intersection, a detail that not only adds solidity to the structure but also gives a touch of originality and uniqueness to the overall design.

"We are pleased to have consolidated our relationship with Zanotta and with the team that has chosen, developed, and realised our projects within the company. The dialogue we have built over the years is important to us, and it continues to be very stimulating and effective." - Enrica Cavarzan and Marco Zavagno, Zaven

Studio Calvi Brambilla presents two important projects: the Tidone wooden table, characterised by generous volumes and massive supports, where the legs can be oriented in two directions depending on the use; paired with the Giuno armchair, available with either fabric or leather upholsterdy, and featuring a sculptural and anthropomorphic shape, expression of the vital force of an immediate design, offering great comfort thanks to the enveloping seat.

"Since we started collaborating with Zanotta in 2014, we find ourselves in the joy of making new and beautiful things. The context has changed a lot over the years, but our passion has never waned. On the contrary, over time, new opportunities have opened up, and we are very proud to be part of the growth and renewal process that the company is experiencing. Collaborating with Zanotta is a privilege and a constant source of inspiration for us, and we are excited to continue contributing to the creation of iconic designs and the craftsmanship excellence that characterises Zanotta." - Paolo Brambilla and Fabio Calvi, Calvi Brambilla

Inside the new Zanotta flagship store, the evolution of the Talamo bed, designed by Damian Williamson in 2011, and updated versions of the Tweed tables designed by Garcia Cumini studio and BOL made by Zaven, respectively, will also be presented.

The Talamo bed, a historic and acclaimed creation for its timeless style and enveloping comfort, is reinvented with an innovative feature: integrated smart storage to offer an even more complete and functional experience. The addition of integrated storage to the new Talamo Box represents a clever response to modern space and organisation needs.

Tweed, the table masterfully designed by Garcia Cumini, stands out for its free form and distinctive character. The new version of the table maintains its timeless elegance, presenting renewed shapes and dimensions. With more generous measurements, the designers have refined the proportion ratio between the structure and the legs, maintaining their distinctive lightness while giving them a more decisive presence. This subtle modification captures the essence of Tweed's originality by adding a dimension of stability without compromising its intrinsic dynamism.

The new BOL table features a back-painted glass top in the same color and new dimensions.

ABOUT MULLER VAN SEVEREN

Muller Van Severen was founded in the early Spring of 2011. With both Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen being artists, it’s natural that their collections sit somewhere between design and art. Muller Van Severen has been on an inspired quest for sculpturally interesting furniture objects, always including the space around it, and characterized by careful research into their shared passion for art, architecture, and materials. At the same time, Muller Van Severen’s designs appear to be created almost intuitively and with total effortlessness. It looks as if the designers draw with crayons in space.

After winning countless awards and collaborating with prestigious museums (such as Vitra Museum, Centre Pompidou and Musée d'Art Decorative Paris) and galleries (Galerie Kreo, Andreas Murkudis, Tim Van Laere Gallery) worldwide, Muller Van Severen is considered to be one of the most image-defining European design teams of today. Their creations are globally identified in both private homes and public spaces. mullervanseveren.be
