Nova Milanese, July 2025 - Zanotta expands its collection with Yori-Kiri, a new bergère designed by Francesca Lanzavecchia, accompanied by a matching pouf. The name is inspired by a Japanese sumo move that combines strength, balance, and control, the same qualities reflected in the sculptural yet inviting form of this new project.

The main challenge was to create a piece that would integrate naturally into the Zanotta collection, respecting its design heritage while maintaining a distinctive identity. Yori-Kiri responds to a previously unexplored need within the range: it is a bergère conceived to offer absolute comfort, the perfect place to relax and feel embraced. The project required a delicate balance between boldness and harmony, between innovation and artisanal tradition,” says Francesca Lanzavecchia

With its generous padding and curved armrests that extend to wrap around the backrest, Yori-Kiri strikes the perfect balance between geometric rigour and soft, welcoming forms. Its dimensions – 87 cm wide, 105 cm high and 99 cm deep – are designed to provide ample seating without compromising on proportion. Engineered for a truly comfortable experience, Yori-Kiri is adjustable and features a synchronised, integrated mechanism hidden inside the seat. This allows the backrest to recline smoothly or be locked into any position, with intuitive ease. The advanced engineering is carefully designed to preserve the chair’s clean aesthetic, enhancing the overall quality of the user experience.

“Comfort is not just about softness, but also about engineering (innovation): the reclining mechanism in Yori-Kiri enables you to find the perfect position naturally, without any intrusive technical components. The goal was to create an object in which technology remains invisible, yet is clearly felt through use, turning every moment of relaxation into a wellness ritual” — Francesca Lanzavecchia

Particular attention has been paid to the choice of materials, in line with Zanotta’s commitment to sustainability and durability. The frame is crafted from steel, while the padding comprises self-extinguishing polyurethane foam with plant-based polyols, paired with a back cushion made from recycled PET fibre. The fabric upholstery is fully removable, ensuring easy maintenance and long-lasting use. The chair is completed with a glossy, lacquered metal swivel base, available in a rich palette of colours: talc, hemp, orange, algae, amaranth and black.

Completing the design is the matching pouf, conceived as a natural extension of comfort. It features the same construction as the chair: self-extinguishing polyurethane foam padding with plant-based polyols, removable fabric upholstery, and a glossy lacquered base in the same colours offered for the chair. Its dimensions are 74 cm wide, 37 cm high, and 58 cm deep.

Yori-Kiri is more than just a bergère: it is an invitation to slow down and carve out a moment for oneself. A design that skilfully blends technology and craftsmanship, adapting to a variety of settings and standing the test of time.
